I have been an entrepreneur since childhood. As a child (12 years old and on), I wrote a weekly article for the local paper, ran a office and residential house cleaning business, and had a number of baby sitting clients. In addition, I did the bookkeeping for my Father's business.
After high school, I fell for the advice of go to college and get a degree and settle into a good paying job. So I put myself through college by working 2 and 3 jobs and stayed on the honor roll. Then I discovered A's and a college degree did not equal a high paying job that I would be happy in. I was meant to be an entrepreneur.

Real Estate Professsional - Investor and Real Estate Agent
2002 - present
I started out in the real estate business as an investor. I bought distressed properties, rehabbed them, and sold them to retail buyers. Later I started purchasing properties for rental units. I became very skilled at short sales so during the market crash, I performed short sale negotiations for an attorney and a few real estate agents. I got my real estate license in Alabama and sold properties to investors in my real estate investment group. I managed a number of small apartment units and office complexes.
With Sperry Van Ness, I performed commercial BPOs and bank negotiations on multi-family properties. I did research on Triple Net properties for investment groups who preferred to buy/lease back Hardees, IHOPs, Krystals, and other major restaurant chains.
In Huntsville, I co-owned the Madison County Real Estate Investors Association (MCREIA) with 3 partners. I organized and ran the monthly meetings along with teaching classes. We had over 500 members and a monthly attendance of 120 to 150 people.
In Tallahassee, I organized the Tallahassee REIA and met my partner, Mark Dobert. We combined our talents and formed the Tallahassee Investors Network (TIN). We currently have over 400 members and hold monthly meetings plus special Saturday trainings. Our monthly attendance runs about 70 to 120 people. We recently launched a private invitation only Mastermind group of full time active investors who meet monthly to brainstorm on the state of the market and opportunities in the area. We have a large Meetup group and have approximately 1200 people on our 3 mailing list. Mark and I launched 2 additional companies for our marketing, rehab, and rental management. We rehab houses and hold rental properties together.
2000 - present
In 2000, I purchased a Curves fitness center franchise. I bought it from a distressed owner and he financed the purchase - no money down. It had less than 50 members (8 who worked out) when I purchased it. I grew it to over 500 members with a daily workout number of 160. I then purchased the tanning salon next door for $2000 because we were outgrew our office space and parking lot. Later, I purchased a 2nd franchise. I purchased a laundromat down the street from the 1st Curves for $5000. I renovated the facility and turned it into a profitable business. I ran these 4 businesses along with starting the Madison County Real Estate Investors Association and a house buying/rehabbing business. Having the right staff members meant that I had time to volunteer with Junior Achievement, Chamber of Commerce, Diabetes Association, and train for triathalons.
Currently own 3 businesses in real estate.
